Blogging for your business is fun, but it takes a lot of work! Perfectly blending creativity, originality, and advertisement is difficult, but there is nothing better than pressing “publish” on a piece you just invested in. However, there is this monster called “SEO.” It stands for “search engine optimization.” Basically, good search engines are looking for websites with certain qualifications. If you ignore some of these, your blog post (that you took so much time to work on) might be ignored by the public, because the search engine won’t present it as an option.
SEO really is a goblin, but can be tamed! Here are three easy tips to beat the SEO monster in your business blog.
1. Name all of your images. Instead of uploading your personal image and letting it have its computer generated name (like image 346), give it a name related to your product. If you’re a bakery, be sure to name it “ginger snap cookies” or “New York Bakery.” That way, people can find your blog by your picture! This idea is from Melissa Griffen’s blog post.
2. According to Rich Brooks‘ article entitled “Blogging for SEO: How to Write Blog Posts That Rank Well,” search engines depend on a good title, so be sure to pack it with keywords. A title like, “Baking is My Joy” is too vague. What is your article about? This is why lists and long titles are so important. A better title would be “Five Ways To Make Baking More Enjoyable: A List From A New York Bakery.” The title shows readers just what they are going to read, and SEO prefers straightforward titles.
3. Ask for help. Sometimes, the drive for a good SEO score is overwhelming, and you need someone to help you. Feel free to contact us for more tips! We’ve got a few more up our sleeves!
